Perfect date
The other night a friend and I were talking about what we could do on a Saturday night, after a busy schedule of working all week. We wanted to get some exercise outside without taking the time to go out of town or up into the mountains. So after work, we stuck a bottle of champagne out in the snow, and got a big fire ready in the fireplace. Then we grabbed our skate skis and headed out to Kincaid. It took us less than 10 minutes to drive there, and because it was Saturday night the parking lot was almost empty, except for a couple moose passing down the road!
We put on our skis and hit the lighted loop. The snow was super sparkly~ it looked like glitter was sprinkled on top of all the ridges. The temperature was ideal, and the trails were groomed and very fast. All the branches that hung over the trails were draped with snow and it was quiet, except for the sounds of our skis and our occasional chatting or laughter. We couldn't believe that there was hardly anyone else on the trail! We had an amazing and fast hour-long ski, and barely saw another person the whole time!
When we got home, the champagne was the perfect temperature. One of us popped the cork and soon the fire was lit and crackling. Five minutes later, a pot of chili was warming, and I couldn't believe that we'd just been in the near-wilderness on the edge of town! Where else but Anchorage can you do that? It was a perfect Saturday night date!
