There are many outdoor activities I enjoy during the winter, but few compare to the excitement of Skijoring.

I have been a downhill skier all of my life and just recently learned to cross country ski; and with the size and strength of my dogs it was a no-brainer.

So I went to the harness shop got my dogs sized up. The rest is history. It is a good activity that not only brings you closer to your dogs, but is also an excellent workout. When I am out on the trails it really takes my mind off of everything besides concentrating on not being led off into the woods by my ambitious, scent-driven Bloodhounds.

Yes that is right, no Huskies here. My dog team in itself is entertaining to watch and seriously adds to the enjoyment of the activity. It is a unique ability to cross country ski at very high speeds as well as an opportunity to be a slacker and just get pulled around if you want. I even close my eyes sometimes and pretend like Patsy, Willie and I are off to Nome in our own little Iditarod.

I truly recommend this to anyone who enjoys being outdoors and has access to a good hearty dog and some skis. I was very skeptical of what my results were going to be since I was told how difficult the sport it was, but I assure you with a little patience and the right dog you will be flying down the trails in no time. out of all the cool things to do around Anchorage....my hounds and I think this may be the coolest.

My name is Curtis Wilson, and I live a Big Wild Life!™
